American Milk Is Not All That’s It Cracked Up To Be

October 27th, 2011

American Nostalgia
How much more American can you be than mom’s homemade chocolate cookies and a big glass of good ole milk? Maybe we can include apple pie and Chevrolet but I digress. But I used the word ‘American’ in that question for a reason. Milk is really not the same throughout the world. It is different here in these United States.

What’s With Our Milk
What if you had a product that was illegal in New Zealand, Australia, all of Europe, and Canada that was not only found on just about every US store, but also encouraged to be consumed by the USDA, FDA, AMA, etc.? We have that in milk. Not just milk but all dairy products and other types of products that use dairy in their composition. The main culprits are the things that we are feeding and injecting into cows. A single glass of milk can contain a mixture of as many as 20 painkillers, antibiotics and growth hormones. Using a highly sensitive test, scientists found the chemicals in samples of cow, goat and human breast milk. So with your cookies you get to ingest niflumic acid, mefenamic acid, ketoprofen, diclofenac, phenylbutazone, naproxen, flunixin, diclofenac, florfenicol, estrone, 17-beta-estradiol, 17-alpha-ethinylestradiol, and pyrimethamine. This cocktail of ingredients are various anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, (natural, sex, and steroidal hormones), and anti-fungal drugs.

Genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rbGH) is used on about 70% of all milk found in the United States. The problem is, finding the 30% is next to impossible. You see, the USDA and FDA do not require that products containing these chemicals be labeled as such. That’s right, no disclosure is required, but is banned in Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and in the 27 countries of the European Union because of its dangers to human health. It’s no secret that girls begin menstruating at much earlier ages, that breast cancer incidence has increased, and that diabetes, and other diseases are on the rise. The correlation between these and the use of rbGH is hauntingly similar.

Cows receiving this synthetic hormone suffer massively high rates of mastitis, a painful infection of their udders, resulting in the need for routine administration of antibiotics and other drugs. The Canadian Journal of Veterinary Research (2003) found 16 different harmful medical conditions resulting from rBGH administration to dairy cattle, including:
40 percent increase in infertility
55 percent increased risk for lameness
Shortened lifespan
Hoof disorders
Visibly abnormal milk
This is inhumane treatment for a product that is dangerous for human consumption.

What To Do
You very well may be drinking rBGH milk, or eating rBGH cheese or yogurt, as no labeling is required. This is despite the fact that surveys show that more than 80 percent of Americans want it labeled, but the government, as usual, continues bowing to industry lobbyists. At best you can start drinking RAW milk if it hasn’t been outlawed where you live or you have access to it. Beware that the Federal government has been cracking down on farmers that have been providing it. Next best is organic milk that is now available just about everywhere. Thirdly, join groups that are in favor, 80% of everyone wants these products labeled, and that are trying to make it mandatory that these products are labeled.

If people start doing a little research they will find that not only with milk, but just about ALL food that is pushed by the food industry, have components in them that are pushed by financial and agricultural lobbies and that have a huge influence on the laws we have in place. People can market and produce whatever they want, but please disclose the ingredients and let consumers make their own decisions.

Corn Is Not A Vegetable

December 4th, 2010

Birke Baehr is 11 years old. He has a presentation on one of the largest businesses in the world, corn. Corn represents one of our largest lobby groups in the United States. In many states and many parts of the country it is the backbone of their economies. But is big CORN all that good for you. Big CORN has become an Industry to reckon with. Big-box agriculture also has it’s defenders as it is also one of the highest subsidized crops.

I’m not sure an 11 year old is that economically and nutritionally aware so in a way I’m against using children to push political points of view, however, if it is free of politics, and based on nutrition, he is spot on. Truth be told, corn is not a vegetable. Monsanto’s idea of “food safety” includes genetically engineered food, hormones, pesticides, antibiotics, or slaughterhouse waste, all of which are toxic.

Here is Birke Baehr presentation.

and here is the video “Everything You HAVE TO KNOW about Dangerous Genetically Modified Foods”.

and finally an almost 2 hour documentary on Monsanto, one of the largest chemical agricultural companies in the world.

Bottom line… Find out what you are putting into your body.

Death By Medicine

October 18th, 2010

I recently read a report that contained some astonishing statistics, Here are a few to wet the whistle. There are over 2.2 million cases of patients having adverse reactions to prescriptions of medicine while in the hospital annually. There are over 20 million unnecessary antibiotics prescribed to people annually. The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures preformed annually is 7.5 million per year. The number of people that get hospitalized annually that do not even need hospitalization is 8.9 million a year.

What does this cost? It’s cost is an astounding 763,000 lives each year. Right here in these United States. These statistics were from ten years ago. Imagine what they are now.

This fully referenced report has basically been ignored. In it, the people who end up getting the worse treatment, or lack thereof, are our elderly senior citizens. Over 105,000 people die from premature malnutrition in our country’s nursing homes. This does not include the health ramifications of having a poor diet. There are over 2.2 million senior citizens that are over medicated in nursing homes and over 20% of ALL deaths occur in nursing homes.

In 2001 there were 1.9 million senior citizens in nursing homes. That figure will be 6.6 million by 2050.

You can find this report at Death By Medicine.

It’s time to wake up America! There will be tens of millions of you entering the hospital or care facility during the next 20 years. Are you doing anything now to prevent this from happening?

A Perfect Day – Where Would You Live

January 31st, 2010

I was over on Chris Hughs blog, (definitely check it out WhosChrisHughes.com ) and he asked as the title of one of this blog posts, “What’s Your Perfect Day”?

This is a very subjective question and we all have different answers. So to help with “MY” and maybe “YOUR” introspection, here is the answer to the first question. And even though I’ve seen this question asked before out here on the web, I’ll answer his. Remember, it’s a “Perfect Day”. I will get to several other questions of the set in later posts. So I ask you to also answer this and let someone know what it is either here, on his site, or your own.

So for now…

Where would you live?
I am a novice traveler but only because I’ve not spent time in been to places that most people haven’t even thought about going to. So my definition of a novice means that being or spending time in Paris, London, Rome, or Berlin, I’ve only gone through their airports. Yes, one day I will be going to Katmandu. I’m one that ALWAYS like to take the path that is least traveled. I enjoy being a rebel. I don’t choose paths because there is less resistance, but because I’ve taken a comprehensive critical look at the facts. This doesn’t stifle any of curiosity nor does it say I’m predictable. I’m number one, an individual. (This information really prefaces all my answers to all of Chris’s questions as well.)

I would like to have homes all around the world. They also are not all going to be in the cities either. I may give locations that are large cities or are a country, but only because either I have not been there yet, or would always have to explain where they are located. The places I have got to live that were outside the United States are limited but I’ve been lucky to spend weeks at a time in may places.
