Learn Without Memorizing

Posted by: Chris | Comments (3)

tsn1 Learn Without MemorizingPart of being an entrepreneur involves having to where many hats. If you’ve been studying using social media for your marketing there are a lot of things to remember. In the context of having to be as efficient as possible through daily habits, there are many things we have to remember that matter greatly. While no single task involved with it is extremely difficult, having to remember them all can be challenging, especially when literally the next day you may be teaching someone else what you just learned today.

With that I offer you a blog post called How to Learn Without Memorizing written by Scott Young on a Blog site called Think Simple Now. In it he describes a completely different system of learning by connecting ideas together. Scott describes this as creative learning.

What I’d like to advocate in this article is a more creative, spontaneous form of learning than the style you were probably coached for in school. Instead of repeatedly scanning the same information for minimal benefit, invest your time learning in creating connections with the information you are learning. Not only is it a more natural way to learn, it isn’t painfully boring like most memorization tasks are.

He goes on to describe many different strategies that you can implement as well. I find this kind of learning fascinating and will certainly delve more into it. I may even try and use it to try and explain some abstract technical information. Don’t be surprised if you find it in one of my later 101 traffic generation strategies in the near future.

Not only is this post interesting but the whole blog seems to be as well. Again it’s called Think Simple Now.

Have a remarkable day.

101 Traffic Tips | #14 | Facebook HTML

Social Media
Social Media consists of exciting, revolutionary and whether we realize it or not, far-reaching effects on all of our lives. It is propagated by people using online publication technologies that are highly accessible and scalable. With it people are easily able to share news, information, and content in the forms of video, text, and images. It is revolutionary in that it is highly interactive, forever changing, and extremely dynamic in providing relevant content. It is not at all like its predecessors that used the internet as an electronic brochure. Social Media’s growth is attributed to its ease of use and is reflected in its tremendous growth. It’s use in content syndication is second to none.

Content Syndication
One of the dynamics of Facebook is that it allows easy integration of other content easily into it. With a few simple clicks of the mouse you can import content from other sites very easily. The importing of content is done via RSS (Really Simple Syndication) under the hood. You just have to supply Facebook a link and it searches out the RSS feed of that site and imports the links and a small snippet of content to supply to your Facebook page. It will grab the description and the images on the page. You then can choose to add your own comment and pick the image that you want to share with your ‘Friends’.

Here is a video on how to use the Profile HTML feature on Facebook for your opt-in box and Social Media buttons.

Here is the HTML mentioned in the video.

Today I’d like to talk about reciprocity. Reciprocity is defined in the dictionary as
“A reciprocal condition or relationship”. You typically here it in relation to laws between states based on a pre-arranged agreement of some type. In our marketing world we also hear the term thrown out a lot. Though it means almost the same thing as above with regards to it being between two or more people, it is far much less of a formal agreement.

It’s been my experience that I haven’t ever seen this type of reciprocity, being “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours”, ever enforced with an actual document of some type. I’m not saying they don’t exist, but I haven’t ever seen one. The scratching were talking about here is a mutual unwritten rule that deals with content syndication. That is to share each others content, whether it be an Ezine article, blog post, Youtube video, or a social media comment. If you are made aware of it and it fits your definition of having value that people that follow you would like to read your task is to syndicate it through various means. This agreement is usually lose coupled and there is no enforcement mechanism in place.

So what can make sure that your content will be syndicated? Nothing, other than your word or honor. But if we are to be practicing true attraction marketing while affiliating and associating with other like minded individuals aren’t we really saying “What goes around comes around”? Indeed. If you are lax in your agreement, the market, in this case time being the commodity, the playing field will be leveled. What you put into syndicating efforts for others content is what you will get back.

Now there’s a few important variables that need to be considered. Syndication is really a matter of numbers. If someone has 2000 Facebook followers and 5000 Twitter followers and is compared to someone who has 4000 Facebook followers and 10000 Twitter followers, who is standing to gain more traffic if they syndicate in the same manner? The person with the lower amount will. Because of this, it is best to have agreements or syndication groups, (Tribes), with a fairly similar amount of influence. Each one should have a similar number of followers and friends.

Lastly, all of the things said above can be thrown out the window when it comes to leadership. If you are in a leadership role as someone in a business arrangement, let’s say an MLM company, it is your obligation to help your down-line create and generate business. This is true of at least maybe down to a few levels (each organization will be different) as there is a point of diminishing returns if your time is used by which you have no direct benefit. If they are using the internet to attract potential business partners you should syndicate their content regardless of their numbers. You will also want to aggressively get their numbers up and teach them so that they will eventually get to teach their down-line.

So that’s my philosophy regarding reciprocity in regards to content syndication when it comes to new or fairly new people. With that being said, someone with 3200 Facebook friends and 21,000 Twitter followers can garner a nice share of traffic to their tribe members. I personally have 1 business tribe, and a very loosely coupled tribe that I’ve been syndicating over the last month. I’ve seen some great tangible results. There are some I’ve driven over 400 unique visitors to in a 3.5 day period. This has happened in a few cases. Others have been mostly in the 300 range with a few in the 200 and 1 in the 100 range. As an average I would say I can generate 275-325 unique visitors per blog post that I syndicate. If I had 10 others with as many following and we syndicated in the same manner for each of our 2 blog posts per week, we could expect to have 300 visits x 2 per week x 4 weeks x 10 syndicators = 24,000 unique visitors to your blog each month.
If you could get 3% of them to opt-in to your auto-responder you’d have 180 new names a week. There’s no reason you couldn’t have 10,000 names at the end of one year.

If you have 2000+ Facebook friends and 12,500 Twitter followers or more and would like to start a committed content syndication group give me a shout in the contact link on the top of the blog. I’m looking for those 10. I’m working on some software that can make the syndication time commitment less than 4 hours a week.

Have a remarkable day.

101 Traffic Tips | #5 | Philosophy on Tools

Posted by: Chris | Comments (3)

Welcome everybody! I hope you’re enjoying the items I’ve been giving you. Today I’d like to talk about a misnomer that most people get wrong. Most people believe that everything that occurs around us revolves on technology being the key driving force. Yes it’s true. While there is a lot of technology, it is really based on primitive social and behavioral sciences or psychology. It’s very interesting to see how different technologies just end up becoming tools for us to communicate and interact in a way that we choose. The underlying supposition that we adapt our behavior towards technology is incorrect. It is technology that adapts to us.

With this in mind, we need to be cognizant of what and which tools we choose to use. We want to pick a tool belt that is efficient, easy to understand, and makes some of our routine and mundane tasks much easier. Over complicating things can create a psychological animosity to some of these tasks and this is the farthest thing from what we want to accomplish. After all, we want to have some fun in our work, not just painstaking repetitiveness. We don’t want our tool selection to pull us back. Sometimes using notepad, a calendar, and a white board can accomplish more than the fanciest new software.

Likewise, one needs to understand that there may be software that does seem a little daunting when first using it. While this may be the case, there may be inherit efficiencies built into it that will save hours of work. If you use this tool a lot, it will save you even more hours.

Not all software is written the same nor does it all behave in a consistent manner. Each software vendor or social media site has its own pluses and minuses. The ones used in social media vary widely. While none of them are overwhelming by any means, there is a lot of interacting that needs to occur for maximum utilization. Sometimes it the combination of uses that can maximize the time spent and the results of that one is trying to accomplish. This is especially true for social media marketing.

With all this in mind our goal of social media is to drive traffic to our blogs as a central hub and to capture their contact information in our auto-responders. We need to situate ourselves as an authority figure, engage in dialog, create a two way conversation, provide useful and valuable information to people, and eventually invite them to our blogs. Many times the person has already visited because you were able to help them on some topic that you had previous information on. In the next segment of the series I’m going to start with various tools that I use. There are so many I know that I’ll end up missing some that you may already use or are because they are unfamiliar to me.

But for the one’s I do use, I’ll give you examples of what I do, why I do them, when I do them, with some live examples, and some results.

It’s A Message

Posted by: Chris | Comments (2)

coin Its A Message
Social Media Boom
Well it seems now that social media marketing is like a shiny new silver dollar and almost everyone is waking up and getting involved, as they should. There’s no question that social media applications are becoming central to our online lives, and soon social apps will be an integral part of the very operating systems we use. People are using Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube like crazy, and there are no signs of slowing down.

But Don’t Forget
What everyone still needs to realize is that as neat and nifty these online applications are, at the heart of it all, especially for marketers, is they are used to convey messages. You can never forget that these new social technologies are simply different and new ways to communicate. You also need to know that technology by itself is not can not compel anyone to do anything. You need to make sure that you don’t get the social technologies mixed with the message.

It’s Still A Message
So now we know that every status update, Tweet, and Facebook message is nothing more than a communication between a sender and on the other end, a reader. What your message says and how you say it are what matters. Don’t get caught up in the hype of Web 2.0 when it comes to conveying your message. At the core of it all you still need to deliver relevant messages, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, or an email campaign. Make sure you communications deliver a persuasive call to action because when it is all done and said, it’s still only a message. How you choose to craft and convey the words in it will make all the difference.

My Twitter Responses to New Followers

Posted by: Chris | Comments (6)

Over at TweetLater.com You have the option of automatically sending a welcome message to new followers. I would bet most people use the default message and if they do customize one, they only have one. The first thing you should do is get rid of the generic message. Secondly, a rule that you HAVE to follow is to stop the urge to have a message that contains spam. If you want to repel someone, the best way is in your very first contact, try and sell them something. Thirdly, an option you have is to put in several, I use 20 return messages when someone follows me. Remember, you want to stand out, get the person curious, and maybe solicit some kind of response. I have some that range from the ridicules to the sublime. I actually have a high rate of response from these.

In order to set up the multiple rotating feature you need to wrap the 140 characters or less messages in curly braces {} and delimit them with a bar | . Here is an example of what I use. These are just a few random messages I send out and some examples of some of the responses.

If you could ever get a nice European sports car, what color would you like? I’m thinking of a dark blue. |
Have you ever noticed that when you stop searching and looking for something, the thing then appears? Isn’t that weird? |
I like fishing. A bad day of fishing is always better than the best day of work. Do you get to fish as much as you want to? |
Now that I have so much free time my wife’s honey do list is growing. Little does she know it but I hire the neighbor kids to do most of it.|
I like apples better than oranges. Isn’t it amazing how we are all so much alike but each have our own peculiarities. Did I spell that ? |
Do you like beer? I do. Maybe too much. Maybe it’s because I have too much time on my hands. Maybe I need to get a real job. Nah…
