Power of Expectation – High Five!

October 21st, 2011

What is the usual outcome when someone someone complements you on a job well done? When you accomplish something good? When you achieve something that you’ve been working on for a long period of time? When you even do something simple that keeps you focused on your goals?

Is it, “Oh, it was nothing.” or “Just doing my job.” or “It’s no big deal.” ? That’s what most do. Or they do nothing. They diminish their own success. They feel somewhat embarrassed and try and change the subject quickly.

How you handle successes, even small ones, are just as important as what you do with your failures.

Now there is no question that we learn best by infusing information via several mediums, visual, auditory, reading, and even physical, and by repeating them over a 28 day period, have the ability to reprogram ones thinking.

So try this out for 28 days. For each and every little success you have starting with getting out of bed, clench your fist, pull it, and say “YES!”. If there are others around, do a high five with them. Do a fist bump. Something physical that gives you a feeling of accomplishment, raises your attentiveness, and otherwise makes you feel good. Go ahead and try it right now. Don’t you feel better? Careful with belly bucking and head butts!

Another thing to do after having your mini-celebration is to tell yourself that you earned this, that you deserved this, because you were prepared. Take ownership of the success.

Then use that feeling to tell yourself that this is just the beginning. Your starting the day off right? Use this first success to launch your day, your week, your month, your life.

So if you make a call to someone with the goal of setting an appointment and you achieve those results, high five! Someone calls you and gives you a referral, high five! You close a deal, high five!

What happens is you will have a aura of expectation and will come to expect good things to happen. This will provide you energy beyond belief and others will feel this energy emanate from you. The world will as well. Going to the mall? Go to the front row, there will be a parking place waiting for you. Need to get a hold of someone? They will call you. Closing a sale? No problemo.

Your business can be great. Your marriage can be great. Your life can be great. High Five!

Welcome Tribe 2.0

June 16th, 2010

Firstly, I want to thank Phil Jackson for his recent post called “RIP Tribes? Phil has been a crusader in the Tribe Syndication Group called The Daily Crushers. This is basically a response to the post.

As I am witness to the power of tribes, and have been involved with some very loosely coupled tribes in the beginning where some of the methods and ways going about being a member involved trying to get others to do things the way they wanted them, or when you had a chance to dictate them, it was too much of a learning curve to get them to happen on a consistent basis.

I also have been involved with several other tribe organizations in may ways. What I have discovered is in the old saying that someone who does not have enough skin in the game isn’t someone could depend on. So what ended up happening was dumbed down version of going to others sites and clicking a button on someone’s blog post if you found the time. I learned later that that this may have given them some authority, but there are better ways that work 10 times better.

I’ve always been at odds with the term “Tribes” because it was taken from the book called “Tribes” and Seth Godins definition of a “Tribe” was always in context of leadership. The way it has been used is directly in opposition of that, as a commune. Tribes are people who follow. People will follow leaders. Leadership is something that is only earned by trust that is demonstrated by the way someone acts. It is not simply a title given to someone. That leader in order to be called a true leader must be doing things that promote and train others to be leaders as well. A true leader is not gauged by the title they hold or have been appointed but by the trust they have gained by lifting their followers. This is totally in contrast of the prevalent definition of a communal group that have a set of dictates to follow. Seth was trying to instill and train new leadership, not a new version of group followers. Seth was looking for people who wanted to learn “LEADERSHIP” and to train them. If we were to use the term “Tribe” the way it is being used for tribe syndication, its goal should be to figure out a way to dissolve as soon as possible. Each one of us should take the bull by the horns and LEAD and form a new “Tribe” group.

I think that Tribe 2.0 as Phil has said is the next evolution to do just that. It is recognizing the gap I talk about above. The term “tribe” should never remain a permanent thing or structure. As defined above it should evolve. But a mastermind group can be permanent. Seth Godin’s tribe definition is to teach and create new tribes, the things you can learn in a mastermind group.

I have created implementation models that can blow the doors off of the early implementations of Tribe syndication. I, like Phil, have realized that there is much more to “Tribes” than simply providing backlinks to your Tribe members. I have developed ways to automatically provide thousands of backlinks to your content. So now we step into “Tribe 2.0″. “Tribe 2.0” could be better known as a “Mastermind” group coined by Napoleon Hill.

So is Tribe 2.0 could be the original “Tribe” concept that Seth Godin wrote about in his book called “Tribes”? What a lot of people were led to believe is that a common shared goal could be a “Tribe” because it was based on a common belief. It was a communal goal that was to be practiced by all. We now know different.
The answer is YES!

The syndication group I spend my time with is more than just a group of syndicators. What I’m finding in the tribe I formally participate in is I am getting a chance to PRACTICE leadership. Hopefully they are learning it as well. I am getting a chance to educate, as I learn many things as I study their communication practices. I am learning information about many things. The great thing about it is that we are all at various levels of leadership and various levels of mastering online marketing, whether is be coaching, affiliation marketing, or daily practices that elevate our business and personal growth. The commodore and bonding we are experiencing, even though we may be at different levels, give everyone a chance to contribute to everyone else’s growth and I think eventually, much longer term relationships that can expand to joint venture partnerships in the future.

Our goal, I think is to be more in line with what Seth Godin proclaimed is to build tribes and teach them leadership, and kick them out of the nest. Once they are on their own, they will still have a bond. If leadership training is the goal, and leadership training does include learning and teaching technical skills, the psychology of sales and marketing, and personal development, then “Tribe 2.0” is something we should ingrain in our businesses. I welcome Tribe 2.0.

Leadership With Michelangelo

The Person Not the Job
There is no future in any job or single product. The future lies in the person who holds the job or sells the product. This steadfast principal is a cornerstone of Personal Branding. Given a similar product or opportunity by two individuals, who do you buy from? You buy from the person who has offered the most value to you. The person who has answered your questions. The person went beyond the simple answers. The person who made themselves available to you. The person who appears to be a leader. Did you read that last sentence? “The person who appears to be a leader.”

webProviding Phenomenal Value
I’ve been a bit derelict in my duty and have been a bit sparse on my posts. I have been working on some projects related to this blog and you should start seeing some more concrete content and some action items that you’ll be able to implement. What’s the purpose? Well it’s to drive a lot more traffic to your blog. In fact, I’m sure of it that you’ll be getting more traffic. You’ll be able to start converting sales in your funnels and building your lists. “That’s a bold statement there Chris”, I can hear you saying. Why am I saying this? I’ve had some concrete examples that I implemented earlier this week and have had some fantastic results. As you know I’m big on leadership and one of the tenets that I’ve taken to heart over the last 6 months is to provide value to others. Phenomenal value. Not only do I want to provide content that educates, informs, shows how to, helps people make decisions, and motivate them, I also want to make sure what I provide them is something that is efficient and has solid reasons to why I do things the way I do. IN my mind, If I can’t, then I’m not doing my job.

This post contains some nomenclature that not everyone is accustomed to. If you sign up for my 101 Traffic Generating ideas on the right hand side of this page you will learn about what exactly I’m talking about and how it can catapult your traffic.

Great News For You!
One of the things that I did earlier this week and am excited to share with you was to implement a strategy with a customized web site I built to help with content syndication. It integrates with bit.ly and some other twitter tools. It’s about 95% ready for prime time and you will be hearing more about it in the near future. On Monday morning I went through a cycle of what would occur if I had a content syndication group or tribe. This would be a small group of 5 people. I syndicated 4 other people’s last blog post. I created a flood of tweets that was syndicated to my twitter followers. As I write, the 4 different blog posts received 394 hits, 323 hits, 233 hits, and 170 hits. These were distinctly because of my efforts. The statistics were tracked by bit.ly. They averaged around 280 hits each. So lets do the math. If you write 2 posts a week and have one of your tribe members syndicate it. That would be 2 x 280 = 560 unique hits to your blog. Well you wouldn’t have just one tribe member do it, you would have 3 more. So the number of hits to your blog would be 4 x 560 = 2240 a week. Then 4 weeks x 2240 = 8960 hits a month. What is also exciting about this is it should only take about 1 hour per week per tribe member. The time it took me to drive the traffic mentioned above was about 80 minutes. If you have time for 10 or 20, why not? So with 10 it could be 20K visitors a month. 20 could be 40K visitors a month. What it comes down to is you just need to create quality content for others to syndicate and syndicate theirs. There will be more to come on this for sure.

Proof of Concept
Secondly, because I have tangible proof of this working I had some people start calling me a expert in the area and it is something that really excites me, I decided to specialize in it. It really does cover many things across many applications and social media sites and using social media in general. There are best practices and strategies that can help you optimize your experiences and results. These are things that I provide in my training package in depth and will be covering fairly well in my 101 Traffic Strategy series that you can sign up for.

Focus on Content Syndication
So I will be covering the same types of things that I have in the past but you can start expecting more dealing with content syndication. I also will be giving away a sealed copy of Jonathan Budd’s “Top Producer Mastermind Formula” retailing at around $500 smackers after I receive 303 opt-ins. I’ll figure out a way to randomly draw a subscriber. It could be you. And one more thing. Shoot me an email at chris.1.blog@gmail.com telling me about 10 people you told about my blog and how you told them to sign up for the 101 Traffic Strategies. If you do so, I will shoot out a blast of traffic your way. Make sure to give me the url of your blog.

Have a remarkable evening.

What’s Your Motivation?

September 14th, 2009

leadSmall Business
I went to a Tea Party meeting last April to observe and chat with a few folks. This was no large gathering in a large city but a small one with just a few hundred folks in a town of about 5000 people. I spoke with many people I did not know, and I ended up actually speaking to the whole crowd after being prompted by many with whom I spoke to on the sidelines. I mainly talked with many folks from truck drivers, retired veterans, moms, small business owners and conversed about a familiar theme that is near and dear to me, small businesses and their impact and contribution to this great nation we live in. On my Facebook profile I proudly proclaim that it will be entrepreneurial spirit, not government intrusion that will revive our economy. This folks is the heart of small businesses. Small business employs over 75 per cent of the United States workforce. Anything that harms small business in my opinion, harms America.

What I Said
I did not speak about how the current administration is taxing or is planning to tax. I reminded them that it is the Washington politicians of both stripes that are reaching into our wallets. This has not been something that just happened. It has been incrementally occurring for over the last 95 years. The news media is portraying it as a battle between the parties, but for most of us it’s Government overreaching their bounds and getting involved in issues that are not ever discussed in the constitution and using that to fund their own constituencies for one reason or another. It is done by politicians to get re-elected and to have power. I’ve seen right through this for many years. The second oldest profession is being a politician and I actually think there’s not much difference between the first and second.

Leader or Politician
Now there is a line between what constitutes being a leader and being a politician. A leader by definition has to serve their followers and constituencies. I suppose a politician can do that. But one thing that is sorely missed in all of this is what their motive is. If the motive of a leader or politician is to be in charge, make the organization or government run smoothly, make a profit, build a respected company or department, get elected, and to win that might sound good. But to truly define leadership we need to completely understand one thing, motive. How was it the person got into a position where they could be called a leader by the definition used above? Did they inherit it? Was it simply appointed to them? Was it funded by interest groups? If it wasn’t earned on the merit of truly serving others then I would hesitate at calling them a leader. Leadership is also not the one who promised the most. If the leadership was arrived at by taking from someone and giving to another, it is not true leadership.

Motivation
A leader’s motivation is not how far they have advanced their position or power, but how far they have advanced others. That’s the bottom line. If a person takes away from someone intentionally, they are not a leader. A leader strives to add value to others. The value you add to others is teaching them skills, providing opportunity, giving them insight and perspective, and having faith in them. I know this may sound like a politician but the difference lies with their motivation. You can add value to others by not having to take resources from others to give them. A real leader provides inspiration, values, strength, solutions, character, and does not waver in them. There may be politicians whose motives are those of a true leader, but I find it rare to find one. Remember, a true leaders motivation is not to advance their own position or power, but to advance others.

True Leaders Listen

August 12th, 2009

leadershipOne of the most important skills you need as a leader is the ability to listen. The Chinese characters that make up the verb “to listen” tell us something significant about the skill. A King, in order to be a true leader, must listen with ears, eyes, and heart … giving undivided attention to the people.

Are you a good listener?

Are You An Initiator or a Reactor?

July 16th, 2009

Phone, Calendar, Planning, Priorities, SuccessPlanning is important as a leader. When it comes to planning you are either an initiator or a reactor. Most people now plan using an electronic calendar. The way you should look at your calendar is not, “Will my calendar be full?’ but “Who will fill my calendar?” If we are leaders of others the question should not be, “Will I see people?” but “Who will I see?” I have noticed that it is leaders that tend to initiate, and followers tend to react. Notice the difference between the two.
Leadership,Initiate,Plan,Book,CommunicateSo you see, it’s leaders who are taking control and setting their priorities. You do not want to become a slave to the calendar and when you do have to interact with it to manage your priorities you need to be the initiator. Use it wisely to set your priorities. Start planning to plan better.

My Passion For Building My Business

July 7th, 2009

Romanian Child, Passion, Business, Empathy, HelpJohnathan Budd had a highly passionate post with a video and at the end we were asked to leave a comment:

I want you to LEAVE the BIGGEST reason you are building your business, spending your time learning new goals, researching how to succeed, and developing yourself into an entrepreneur.

This is how I responded.

I am driven.  I am motivated.  In that internet marketing is now a science, it is the creative aspects that I like.  Creative aspects for me are the results from the originality of thought, the expression, the interaction, the learning, the teaching, and gaining satisfaction from accomplishment.  The challenges make it much more fulfilling than any 9-5 job ever could.  It’s like I am painting a masterpiece and I have to concentrate on the brush strokes on a small corner of the painting.  As I work on the colors and learn how to mix the paint to achieve the exact real life colors and textures and then transfer them to the canvas, a picture of the future is emerging.

I of course will have to consult with others with whom I will associate to have them help and guide me and give me perspective to the process of finishing the painting.  And it will be those relationships that I end up fostering that will determine whether my painting is a masterpiece.  I can’t do it myself and when I do finish the painting, it will be because of those with whom I trusted and shared my passions.  The success will be reciprocal as one of my passions is to help people understand and achieve things that they didn’t know they could archive or thought unattainable.  My way is perfect only for me.  But there are things I can offer that will help others and in return I will learn from others.

In the end, I want to be able to help people and kids in some of the eastern Europe countries that would make a typical U.S. minimum wage job seem like a muti 6 figure job here.  Outside of the main cities there are families that live on $50 a month, don’t have a water heater, use outhouses still, and live the life our parents and grandparents lived in the 20′s and 30′s.  There are orphanages whose conditions are deplorable at best, and run by corrupt governments and bureaucracies were little ends up directly benefiting the children.  That’s my dream. to see the smile of some happy children who are the happiest they’ve been in their lives just because I bought them all some new shoes.

Keeping Your Rudder Straight

July 6th, 2009

Catamaran, Rudders, Leadership, Priorities, Action, GoalsToday I would like to emphasis that leaders know where they are going. Leaders have charted a course and have taken many factors into account. They rely on their past successful and unsuccessful experiences. The successful experiences provide confidence and teach you what you’re capable of. Likewise, unsuccessful experiences can help you keep your rudder straight. They can reveal wrong assumptions, character flaws, errors in judgment, and poor working methods. Taking time to reflect on experiences is vital.

A leader will examine the conditions before making a commitment. They examine not only measurable sources such as finances , resources, and talent, but also intangibles such as timing, morale, momentum, culture, etc. A true leader will listen to what others have to say. There is no way one can know everything and therefore must gather information from many sources. They listen to members of their leadership team. They also talk to the people in their organization at the grassroots level. Leaders will possess a positive attitude and provide confidence to those depending on them.

Predetermine a course of action.
Lay out your goals.
Adjust your priorities.
Notify key personnel.
Allow time for acceptance.
Head into action.
Expect problems.
Always point to the successes.
Daily review your plan.

Notice the first letter of the list spell PLAN AHEAD. Anyone can steer a ship but it takes a leader to chart the course.

1. Do you have any bad experiences you have learned from or did you just simply forget them?
2. Do you listen to constructive criticism easily?
3. Have you charted a course for you and your team for the next 30, 90, 365 days?

Have a fantastic week everyone and do something remarkable!
Chris
