Facebook Tagging

August 25th, 2010

Facebook, we are all agreed, is awesome. An awesome tool for keeping in touch with your friends, your network, your loved ones who are skiing in Austria, and of cause – awesome for spammers. Yes, we have all had the invites to events that we will never be attending, or the invites to pages that contain matter we would never be interested in… but does any of this put off the experienced, somewhat inexperienced Facebook marketer? I should hope not, because Facebook has an amazing armoury of tools that can help grow your business overnight. I’m speaking this time about Tagging.

Tagging is used by people to get information about a link, page, photo or anything else to another person fast. When you tag somebody on your friends list, they will receive an email. It’s a much more friendly “You were tagged in a photo by John Smith” email subject too. The significance in tagging is not apparent immediately. You have to look a little closer.

Lets say you were a fan of an internet marketing page. You then tag it by inserting @ before the page’s name on your status update, saying “I just posted a pretty in depth review of XYZ website. I’d be interested to know your thoughts! Thanks, Chris.”. What happens next is fairly amazing. Your update will be posted to that page’s wall (eventually) and will go out to however many fans that page has. Fans who read the wall will see this – and possibly visit your site, and then return to “Like” your post on Facebook (or better yet, get some Social Plugins on your site so they can do it there and then).

Unfortunately, this tool is being misused by spammers too. So be careful how you use it – and as with anything online, make it relevant, make it unique, and make it count.

Your List Is Your Ticket

July 26th, 2009

ticketThere’s a saying that the list is the ticket. The ticket to freedom. The ability to fire the boss, freedom from debt, freedom from worry, freedom to move to wherever you want in the world. There is a dynamic involved with the the generation of prospects via list creation that is different depending on the style of marketing. It is the typical quality vs quantity paradigm. There are those that try and get any name on the list and will aggressively market to that list. As fast as people get on that list they will leave.

However, the situation is different for those using attraction principals to build their lists. They are providing value to the list and because of this they not bailing at nearly the rate of the others. Why? I may sound like a broken record here but people do not want to get sold to! If you are aggressively selling to your list before they know who you are or know what motivates you or other personal characteristics you are just simply another salesmen to them. Even if they do not leave the list they will be extremely wary of anything you have to offer. The ones that are following the attraction marketers are learning and getting educated each and every email. They are actually looking forward to their next email. They may not be ready to enter any of your opportunities but as long as they continue to get value they will stay on the list and eventually after they learn more about you and your opportunity or product, and how to market, they will buy.

Needless to say, one list will not be quite as large as the other, but will have a much higher quality. One will not have had to use aggressive sales, or as I heard in a webinar this week, any selling at all. If you’ve done it right, and have brought people into your business based on attraction principals, if for some reason that business went south, you will have willing new partners in any new business that you choose to enter. Not so with the other. Now that’s the ticket I want.

Action – Do It!

June 24th, 2009

doitToday I’m going to talk about the word ACTION. I know that when I started marketing online one of the things that was difficult for me was to stay focused. I was distracted easily. The more I studied, the more things I discovered, the more opportunities I was pitched, the more things there were that distracted me. I was spending a lot of time on my computer and reading books. I was searching around, checking my email, reading some blogs, watching videos, reading things, subscribing and finding new things to supposedly help my marketing efforts. But I eventually came to the realization, that while I might learn a thing or two, none of them helped me put food on my family’s table so to speak.

So I thought I was going through the ACTIONS that I could some-how say was helping to grow my business, my dreams and goals, and my goal of total freedom. I didn’t get the results I expected. What I wasn’t doing was using focused ACTION. One thing I recommend you do if you already haven’t is read the book by Tim Ferris called “The Four Hour Work Week”. It’s hard to believe that he only spends that little amount of time working a week but when you read, he reveals the ways he keeps his time organized, focused, efficient, and prioritized. It doesn’t happen over night. But there are ways you can learn to stay focused. Number one has got to be email. Learn how to implement the auto-responder feature in your email. This in itself will help prioritize your daily activities. Number two, is browsing and surfing. Keep maybe a dictionary and whatever software your using open. Nothing more. Turn your cell phone off. You can always call back. A quiet place where you can focus uninterrupted will put your workplace environment all together.

Now that you are situated in a good spot, you need to have a goal for what you want to accomplish. Work on it till your done. I’m not going to go into the details of goal setting, I’m sure you know all about it. I will say though, is you need to have it be in a realistic bite sized chunk of your total goal. The closer you can actually break apart your tasks the more manageable they will become.

Here is an “Inner Circle” secret. The more time you spend doing what you planned and the more you plan, the more successful you will be. So we’ve come full circle here. We know we need to take ACTION. Focused ACTION makes you much more efficient.

I’ll leave you with this my friend. Focused ACTION is much better than just ACTION and even bad ACTION is better than no ACTION. The bottom line, is you have to simply be like the Nike brand says, DO IT.
