I just love this.

Takeaway: People will only engage themselves in things that interest themselves.
Question: Do you think there are ways of engaging OTHERS in things YOU are interested in, even if THEY may not be?

Just because most people don’t do what we want when want how we want doesn’t always mean they don’t care – or even that they don’t care enough. To engage OTHERS in things WE may be interested in (that THEY are not), it helps to remember to show them that WE care about THEM (FIRST). If WE don’t (really care or show that we do), there’s little reason to expect THEM to care about US and/or our interests.

Most people are exposed to so much information and have so many choices as to where to get it from that they tend to mainly pay attention to WII-FM and MMFG-AM: “What’s In It – For Me?” and “Make Me Feel Good – About Myself”. Since that’s what OTHERS are usually interested in and paying attention to, those would be good things for US to show THEM we care about, too.
